AS Monaco are poised to make Nazinho their first signing of the summer transfer window, acquiring the 22-year-old left-back from Cercle Bruges. An agreement in principle between the two clubs was previously reported, and the deal has now progressed to the point where Nazinho is expected to undergo a medical examination next week, according to reports in France. Upon successful completion of the medical, the Portuguese defender will sign a four-year contract with Monaco.
The transfer fee is reported to be €5 million, with Cercle Bruges receiving the full amount. The move is facilitated by the close relationship between the two clubs, as Cercle Bruges is owned by Monaco. This arrangement allows Monaco to utilise the Belgian side as a developmental hub for young players with high potential, providing them with regular first-team football before potentially integrating them into the senior squad in the Principality.
Nazinho has been a regular feature for Cercle Bruges, contributing consistently in the Belgian Pro League. He has demonstrated his ability to defend effectively and contribute to the attack from the left-back position. While not yet a household name, his performances have clearly attracted the attention of Monaco’s scouting network. The move represents a step up in competition for Nazinho, as he transitions to the higher profile of Ligue 1.
Monaco's strategy of utilising Cercle Bruges as a feeder club is also evident in the development of German forward Paris Brunner, who is currently progressing through the ranks at the Belgian side. There is also a possibility that French attacker Steve Ngoura could follow a similar path, moving from Cercle Bruges to Monaco in the future. This transfer signals Monaco’s commitment to nurturing young talent and building a squad capable of competing at the highest level, and provides Nazinho with a platform to further develop his career.
