Diego Moreira is poised to join Roma from Strasbourg in a deal worth around €35 million, according to Sky Italia and confirmed by L’Équipe. The 21-year-old Belgian international winger has reportedly agreed to a four-year contract with the Serie A club, which would see his salary doubled.
Moreira arrived at Strasbourg two years ago for a fee of €8.5 million and has become a key player for the Alsatian side, finishing eighth in Ligue 1 last season. He has been granted permission to leave the club as Strasbourg undergo a significant overhaul of their squad this summer, having already brought in four new players: Sousa, Brantlind, Del Blanco, and Pietukowski.
Roma manager Daniele Gasperini is reportedly targeting Moreira as a direct replacement for Wesley in his 3-4-2-1 formation. The club finished third in Serie A last season and will compete in the Champions League, offering Moreira the opportunity to play at a higher level.
Strasbourg are also set to lose Emmanuel Emegha to Chelsea, with Valentin Barco potentially following him to Stamford Bridge after the World Cup. Additionally, Julio Enciso, a 22-year-old Paraguayan forward, has emerged as a priority target for Galatasaray. Enciso, who joined Strasbourg for just under €10 million last summer, is valued at around €35 million and could replace Dries Mertens at the Turkish champions, taking advantage of new regulations easing the recruitment of foreign players under 23. Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk confirmed the club’s interest in Enciso on TRT Spor.
The departures of Moreira and potentially Barco and Enciso will provide Strasbourg with significant funds to continue their recruitment drive, as they aim to build a squad capable of challenging for European qualification. Roma’s acquisition of Moreira bolsters their attacking options ahead of their Champions League campaign.
