Jose Mourinho has held discussions with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez regarding the club’s current situation, including assessments of Kylian Mbappe, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Federico Valverde, according to TEAMtalk. The Portuguese manager has reportedly positioned himself as the solution to growing unrest at the Estadio Bernabeu, offering to restore professionalism and control.
Mourinho, currently managing Benfica, maintains a close relationship with Perez despite a turbulent three-year spell in charge of Real Madrid which ended in 2013. While reports at the time suggested a fractured relationship, both men have consistently maintained their mutual respect. This connection has led Perez to consider Mourinho as part of the club’s long-term managerial succession planning.
Madrid are reportedly preparing to replace Alvaro Arbeloa as a future head coach, though the club still holds him in high regard and may offer him a role within a potential Mourinho-led staff. The increasing concerns surrounding discipline and dressing room harmony have prompted Madrid officials to prioritize an experienced managerial figure. While Zinedine Zidane and Jurgen Klopp have been discussed, Mourinho has emerged as a serious candidate.
Perez is believed to have updated Mourinho on recent issues, including a training ground altercation between Valverde and Tchouameni. The ongoing situation surrounding Mbappe, and the frustration with his treatment from some fans, has also been a key topic. Mourinho reportedly believes he can reconnect the dressing room, supporters, and the wider institution, citing his personality, experience, and demanding standards.
However, Mourinho has also made demands during discussions with Perez, requesting significantly greater involvement in Madrid’s football structure, particularly regarding recruitment and transfer strategy. These demands are currently part of ongoing negotiations as Madrid assesses its options for the future. This potential return could signal a significant shift in power dynamics at the club, with Mourinho seeking a more influential role than he previously held.
