Jose Mourinho has identified Manchester City midfielder Rodri as his primary transfer target should he become the next manager of Real Madrid, according to Football Insider. Mourinho is reportedly in advanced talks to replace Alvaro Arbeloa and is prioritizing an experienced midfielder upon his arrival this summer.
However, Manchester City are reportedly unwilling to sell the 29-year-old Rodri unless he actively seeks a departure from the club. City may consider selling Tijani Reijnders instead, following the Dutchman’s challenging first season after joining from Milan.
Alongside Rodri, Mourinho is also considering a move for City defender Josko Gvardiol, with AS reporting that the player’s representatives have offered him to Real Madrid. Gvardiol’s season was cut short by injury in January, but he remains a key player for City, though his contract expires in two years and negotiations for an extension have not yet begun.
Elsewhere, Arsenal have received a boost in their pursuit of Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, with reports in Spain indicating Barcelona’s interest has cooled. Barcelona are reportedly unable to meet Atletico’s asking price, believed to be at least €150 million (£130m), for the 26-year-old Argentina international. Alvarez was initially considered a dream target for Barcelona as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski.
Liverpool are also active in the transfer market, reportedly focusing on Bradley Barcola of Paris Saint-Germain. French outlet Le Sport 10 reports that PSG would allow Barcola to leave if he expresses a desire to move, and the 23-year-old is interested in joining Liverpool provided he would be a regular starter. Liverpool have also been linked with Yan Diomande of RB Leipzig and Maghnes Akliouche of Monaco.
Incoming Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has reportedly requested the signing of Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs, valued at £50 million (€57.3m), as a long-term replacement for Robert Sanchez. Chelsea may also revive their interest in Milan’s Mike Maignan, suggesting a goalkeeper is a top priority for Alonso.
