Mykhailo Mudryk has suggested a potential return to Chelsea despite currently serving a four-year suspension for a positive doping test. The Ukraine forward was provisionally suspended by the Football Association in December 2024 after testing positive for meldonium during international duty in November, with the ban subsequently upheld earlier this year.
Mudryk has appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, but a resolution has yet to be reached, preventing him from training with Chelsea or participating in competitive matches. His last appearance for the club was against Heidenheim in the Europa Conference League on November 28, 2024. While the club continues to monitor his situation, access to facilities remains limited during his suspension.
Recently, Mudryk posted a video on Instagram showcasing a goal scored during individual training with a goalkeeper, accompanied by the caption “Stay tuned…”. His girlfriend, model Jordyn Jones, responded with “we’re ready”, and Mudryk reciprocated a message from a Chelsea fan, stating “miss you too”.
Despite the suggestive post, the possibility of a reduced ban remains unconfirmed, and Mudryk’s long-term future at Chelsea is uncertain. Nearly two years without competitive football have likely diminished his match sharpness. Prior to the suspension, he wasn’t a consistent starter for the Blues, and the club may consider a sale if he is cleared to return to professional play.
Chelsea have strengthened their attacking options since Mudryk’s ban, signing Jamie Gittens, Alejandro Garnacho, and Geovany Quenda. Youngster Jesse Derry is currently on loan at Sporting CP, further adding depth to the squad. These additions suggest the club is looking to the future, potentially diminishing the role Mudryk would have upon his return. While a return to action may be on the horizon, it is possible Mudryk has already played his final game for Chelsea.
