Bayern Munich have been urged to consider a move for SC Freiburg midfielder Johan Manzambi, according to former Bayern star Thomas Müller. Speaking on Magenta TV following Switzerland’s 4-1 victory over Bosnia & Herzegovina, Müller identified the 20-year-old as a player the Bavarian club should closely monitor ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Müller praised Manzambi’s versatility, highlighting his ability to play multiple positions. “He's a player who can play as a number 6, he can play as a number 8, he can play as a number 10,” Müller stated. “He has the number 9 on his back, so maybe we can also sell him as a striker.” The recommendation comes as Manzambi’s future at Freiburg appears uncertain, with the player himself admitting in May that his long-term plans are currently open.
Manzambi has emerged as a promising talent in the Bundesliga with Freiburg, showcasing his technical ability and tactical awareness. He has become a regular fixture in the Freiburg midfield, contributing both defensively and offensively. This season, he has demonstrated an ability to dictate play and provide a creative spark for his team.
While Bayern are reportedly nearing the acquisition of Ismael Saibari, Müller’s public endorsement adds another name to their potential midfield targets. According to reports, Serie A side SSC Napoli are also interested in securing Manzambi’s services this summer. The competition for the young player’s signature could drive up his transfer fee, potentially complicating any move for Bayern.
Should Bayern pursue Manzambi, it would signal their intent to bolster their midfield options with a dynamic and versatile player. The addition of a player capable of fulfilling multiple roles could provide tactical flexibility for manager Thomas Tuchel and strengthen Bayern’s squad depth.
