Napoli have emerged as strong contenders to sign Lazio centre-back Mario Gila this summer, making contact with the Serie A club and potentially challenging Bournemouth for his signature, according to TEAMtalk. The 25-year-old has impressed with his composure, aerial ability, and ball-playing skills in the Italian top flight, attracting interest from multiple clubs.
Bournemouth had previously made an enquiry for Gila last month, with sources confirming their continued interest as they seek a replacement for Marcos Senesi. Several other English clubs have also monitored the defender’s progress in recent years. Gila joined Lazio from Real Madrid in 2022 and has indicated he is open to a new challenge, despite his contract running until 2027.
Gila featured prominently for Lazio this past season, making 31 Serie A appearances and contributing to 13 clean sheets. Napoli view him as a key defensive reinforcement under their new management and are actively pursuing a deal to secure his services. AC Milan also retain a significant interest in the Spanish defender.
However, Serie A clubs may find it difficult to compete with the financial resources of Premier League teams. A transfer fee of around €30million (£25.9m / $34.8m) has been discussed, though Real Madrid are understood to be entitled to a sell-on percentage. For Bournemouth, Gila would bring both quality and tactical intelligence to Marco Rose’s backline, a priority for the new manager.
Napoli are hoping to leverage their Serie A project and Champions League qualification to entice Gila, who is reportedly considering both Italian and English options. Lazio are expected to demand a substantial fee, but may be compelled to sell if a concrete bid arrives. Gila has been a consistent performer for Lazio and remains a key player for the club. His next destination remains uncertain as the transfer window progresses.
