A consortium of American investors have made an offer of approximately €2 billion to purchase Serie A club Napoli, according to reports from The Athletic. Aurelio De Laurentiis, the current owner and president of Napoli, has been in negotiations with potential buyers for several months.
The American firm, Underdog Global Partners, is reportedly prepared to invest in the club’s infrastructure, including a complete renovation of the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. De Laurentiis has been the owner of Napoli since 2004, overseeing two Serie A title wins in 2023 and 2025.
While De Laurentiis has not been actively seeking to sell the club, the substantial offer could prove tempting. Previous offers to purchase Juventus and AC Milan during the winter transfer window exceeded €1 billion, and in 2022, RedBird Capital Partners acquired AC Milan for €1.2 billion. This demonstrates a growing trend of American investment in Italian football.
The potential sale comes at a time of significant change in European football ownership, with increased interest from American investment groups. A successful takeover of Napoli would likely lead to further investment in the playing squad and club facilities, potentially strengthening their position as a competitive force in both Serie A and European competitions. The club’s future direction would be heavily influenced by the new ownership’s vision and strategy.
