Newcastle United have identified Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo as a potential long-term replacement for Anthony Gordon, according to TEAMtalk. The Magpies have stepped up their search for attacking reinforcements and are viewing the 21-year-old Belgian as one of four options to fill a potential void should Gordon depart this summer.
Fernandez-Pardo has impressed in Ligue 1 since joining Lille in 2024, overcoming an initial injury setback to become a key player. In the 2025/26 campaign, he registered 15 goal contributions – eight goals and seven assists – in 41 appearances across all competitions, attracting attention from several Premier League clubs.
Newcastle’s interest in Fernandez-Pardo has been ongoing throughout 2026, with positive reports coming from both the club’s analytics department and scouting network. His versatility is a major asset, as he can play across the entire frontline, but Newcastle particularly value his ability to operate from the left, a position currently occupied by Gordon.
Gordon’s future at St James’ Park remains uncertain, with Bayern Munich reportedly keen on securing his signature. Sources indicate that Gordon’s representatives have already agreed personal terms with the German club, though a transfer fee remains a sticking point, with Newcastle valuing him at upwards of £75 million. Arsenal and Liverpool are also monitoring the situation.
Fernandez-Pardo recently switched his international allegiance from Spain to Belgium, raising his profile within European football. While Newcastle are keen, they face competition from Brighton, Brentford and Crystal Palace for his signature. However, TEAMtalk reports that Newcastle’s admiration for the player is particularly strong, believing his potential remains high despite his limited top-level experience. The club are also considering Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche, Club Brugge’s Christos Tzolis, and Real Betis’ Abde Ezzalzouli as alternative options.
