Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha is attracting interest from several Premier League clubs, despite signing a long-term contract extension earlier this year, according to Sky Germany. Newcastle United, Manchester United, and Manchester City are all reportedly in contact with the player’s representatives, raising the possibility of a summer move for the German international.
Dortmund sporting director Ole Book stated last month that the club’s intention is to retain Nmecha beyond the current season, praising him as “one of the best midfielders in Germany.” Book affirmed that Nmecha is a crucial component of Dortmund’s tactical setup and capable of performing at a high level in European competition. However, Sky Germany reports that Dortmund acknowledge every player has a price, and are aware of the strong interest emanating from England.
Nmecha extended his contract with Dortmund until 2030 in March, seemingly committing his future to the Bundesliga side. He joined Dortmund in the summer of 2023 from VfL Wolfsburg for a reported fee of €30 million, quickly establishing himself as a key player in Edin Terzić’s midfield. Prior to his move to Germany, Nmecha progressed through the Manchester City academy system, but departed the Etihad Stadium on a free transfer in 2021.
The 25-year-old recently featured in Germany’s starting lineup in their 4-0 victory against Finland, showcasing his form on the international stage. He is in contention for a starting role alongside Aleksandar Pavlović in Germany’s midfield during upcoming international tournaments. Should a significant offer arrive from one of the interested Premier League clubs, Nmecha is understood to be open to a return to England, potentially disrupting Dortmund’s plans for the upcoming season. A departure would leave a void in Dortmund’s midfield, requiring them to seek a replacement for a player they recently lauded as integral to their system.
