Newcastle United have agreed a £40 million fee with Hoffenheim for winger Bazoumana Toure, according to TEAMtalk. The move comes as the club prepares to navigate the departures of Anthony Gordon, who is reportedly set to join Barcelona, and Sandro Tonali, nearing a £100 million transfer to Tottenham Hotspur.
The 20-year-old Ivory Coast international enjoyed a breakthrough season in the Bundesliga, scoring five goals and providing 12 assists after joining Hoffenheim from Hammarby in February 2025. His performances attracted interest from several top European clubs, including Liverpool, Manchester United, Atletico Madrid, and Borussia Dortmund, but Newcastle moved quickly to secure his signature after missing out on Victor Munoz earlier in the summer.
Toure is viewed as a direct replacement for Gordon, offering an inverted wing profile with pace, direct running, and creativity that aligns with Eddie Howe’s attacking system. Newcastle also considered a move for Abde Ezzalzouli from Real Betis, but his asking price proved prohibitive, shifting their focus towards Toure.
Alongside the pursuit of Toure, Newcastle are also making significant progress in their attempt to sign Freiburg midfielder Johan Manzambi. The Swiss youngster is considered the preferred replacement for Tonali, admired for his athleticism, energy, and ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch. Club officials believe Manzambi can seamlessly integrate into Howe’s high-intensity midfield.
With Tonali’s move to Tottenham nearing completion, Newcastle are prioritizing securing his replacement swiftly, demonstrating a determination to avoid repeating past transfer frustrations. Negotiations for both Toure and Manzambi are reportedly progressing positively, as the club looks to rebuild its squad following the departures of key players. The additions of Toure and Manzambi would significantly bolster Newcastle’s options in both attack and midfield.
