Newcastle United will allow forward Nick Woltemade to depart on loan for the 2026/27 season, the club has informed the player, according to The Athletic. The Premier League side are reportedly seeking a loan fee for the 24-year-old but will not include an option for a permanent transfer in any agreement.
West Ham United, recently relegated from the Premier League, are currently considered the frontrunners for Woltemade’s signature. Interest also exists from clubs in both La Liga and Serie A, with potential suitors in Spain and Italy monitoring the situation. A return to the Bundesliga is also a possibility, as the former VfB Stuttgart striker was previously linked with Borussia Dortmund earlier in 2024.
Woltemade arrived at St. James’ Park last summer from Stuttgart for a reported €75 million fee. The German forward began his Newcastle career brightly, quickly adapting to the physicality of the Premier League. However, his form diminished as the season progressed, coinciding with a reduction in his overall playing time under Eddie Howe.
Woltemade progressed through the Stuttgart youth academy, making his first-team debut in 2018. He became a regular fixture in the Stuttgart attack over the following seasons, scoring 28 goals in 117 appearances across all competitions before attracting interest from the Premier League. His move to Newcastle was seen as a statement of intent by the club, but his first season has not unfolded as anticipated.
The loan move is intended to provide Woltemade with regular first-team football and an opportunity to regain his confidence. It will also allow Newcastle to assess his development and future prospects without losing a significant asset.
