Newcastle United have signed winger Bazoumana Touré from TSG Hoffenheim for a club-record fee of approximately €50 million, the Premier League club confirmed on Friday. The move surpasses Newcastle’s previous record transfer, the €44 million paid for Joelinton in 2019, and represents a significant sale for Hoffenheim.
Touré joined Hoffenheim in February 2025 from a Swedish club and quickly established himself as a key player, contributing to what the Bundesliga side described as their second-best season in club history. Hoffenheim sporting director Andreas Schicker acknowledged the club’s disappointment at losing the Ivorian international but emphasized the club’s strategy of developing talent and facilitating moves to larger European clubs.
“Since joining from Sweden in February 2025, Bazou has undergone an extraordinary development – a fact largely attributable to the coaching team led by Chris Ilzer,” Schicker stated. “Of course, we would have loved to keep Bazou with us. However, it is in line with TSG’s DNA and our chosen path to sign highly talented players and, together with our coaching team, to develop them systematically and enable them to make the step up to elite clubs.”
The 23-year-old winger expressed gratitude for his time at Hoffenheim, describing the club as a family and highlighting the development he experienced both on and off the pitch. Touré acknowledged the coaching staff, teammates, and fans for their support during his time in Germany.
“TSG was like a family to me,” Touré said. “We experienced a wonderful and successful time together, during which I was able to develop as a player and as a person. I thank my teammates and coaches, but also every single person at the club and the fans from the bottom of my heart.”
Newcastle have been actively strengthening their squad under new ownership, and the addition of Touré provides manager Eddie Howe with another attacking option. The Ivorian’s pace and dribbling ability should add a new dimension to Newcastle’s forward line as they continue to push for European qualification. This transfer further signals Newcastle’s ambition to compete with the Premier League’s established elite.
Touré's arrival provides competition for existing wide players at St. James’ Park, and his ability to both create chances and score goals will be a valuable asset for the Magpies as they navigate a demanding season.
