Newcastle United are on the verge of completing a €50 million deal to sign winger Bazoumana Touré from German Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim, according to reports. The transfer is expected to be announced in the coming days, bringing the Ivorian international to St. James’ Park.
Touré enjoyed a breakout season with Hoffenheim last year, registering 17 direct goal contributions in 30 league appearances. This form attracted attention from several clubs across Europe, but Newcastle appear to have successfully secured his signature after months of speculation surrounding his future.
Florian Först, a scouting expert at Kickfieber.de, has followed Touré’s career closely, noting his potential even during his time at Swedish club Hammarby. Först believes the move to Hoffenheim was a crucial step in the player’s development, providing him with the platform to showcase his talents.
According to Först, Touré’s key strengths lie in his exceptional pace and agility, making him a challenging opponent for defenders. He ranked highly in the Bundesliga last season for both successful dribbles and progressive runs, demonstrating his ability to drive forward with the ball. Beyond his dribbling ability, Touré is also recognized for his relentless work rate, leading the Bundesliga with over 760 sprints.
Despite his clear strengths, Först identifies areas where Touré can still improve, specifically his finishing and passing accuracy. While he contributed significantly to Hoffenheim’s attack, Touré only scored five goals, sometimes lacking composure in front of goal. He also has the potential to refine his passing, increasing both the speed and precision of his distribution.
Först cautions that Touré will require time to adapt to the demands of the Premier League and shouldn’t be viewed as a like-for-like replacement for Anthony Gordon, who recently moved to FC Barcelona. He suggests that Touré’s speed and work rate will be well-suited to the English top flight, and his vision could make him a valuable provider for Nick Woltemade. However, a period of adjustment will be necessary as he acclimates to a higher level of competition. The signing represents a significant investment in a young talent with considerable potential, poised to contribute to Newcastle’s attacking options.
The transfer is yet to be officially confirmed by either club, but is anticipated to be finalized shortly.
