Nikola Vlasic Completes Permanent Move to Torino from West Ham
Torino have completed the permanent signing of Croatian attacking midfielder Nikola Vlasic from West Ham United. The Serie A club have exercised a purchase option, reported by Sky Sport Italia to be worth approximately €15 million, securing the 26-year-old on a contract until June 2027. The deal was finalized after Vlasic cut short a holiday in Florida to return to Italy and complete the necessary formalities.
Vlasic spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Torino, making the move permanent after a campaign where he became a crucial figure for manager Ivan Juric. He scored five goals and provided four assists in 37 appearances across all competitions, demonstrating the consistency and tactical intelligence that made him a fan favorite at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino. His performances were instrumental in Torino securing a mid-table finish with one of the league's best defensive records.
The transfer concludes a challenging chapter for Vlasic in England. He joined West Ham from CSKA Moscow in the summer of 2021 for a fee in the region of €30 million but struggled to secure a regular starting role under David Moyes. His time in London yielded just one Premier League goal, prompting the loan move back to Italy, a country where he had previously impressed during a spell with Everton earlier in his career.
For Torino, this represents a significant piece of business, locking down a key creative asset without a protracted negotiation. Juric’s system relies heavily on hard-working, technically sound attackers, and Vlasic’s profile is a perfect fit. His renowned professionalism, once highlighted by Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone who noted the player's strict sleep regimen, aligns with the disciplined culture the club is building.
For West Ham, the sale allows them to recoup a portion of their initial investment and clear a significant wage from their books as they plan their own summer rebuild under new technical director Tim Steidten. The fee, while a loss on their original outlay, provides useful funds for incoming transfers. Vlasic’s permanent departure was widely expected following the successful loan, and his full integration at Torino is now formally complete, offering stability for both the player and the club ahead of the new season.
