Bayern Munich goalkeeper Alexander Nübel is poised to complete a permanent transfer to Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas after reaching an agreement with his current club regarding the terms of his departure. The deal, which has been developing over recent weeks, was finalized late Tuesday evening when Bayern and Nübel agreed on a severance package, according to reports in Bild.
The agreement over the severance package proved to be the final obstacle in the transfer, as Nübel was seeking compensation to relinquish the significant salary he was due to receive under his contract with Bayern, which was set to run until 2029. Besiktas will pay a transfer fee of €6.5 million for the 27-year-old, with a further €5 million potentially payable in add-ons, dependent on future performance. Nübel is expected to undergo a medical examination in Istanbul on Wednesday to finalize the move.
Nübel initially joined Bayern Munich in 2020 from Schalke 04, but has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter for the Bavarian giants. He spent two seasons on loan at Monaco, gaining valuable experience in Ligue 1, before returning to Germany to join Stuttgart for a further three-year loan spell. During his time with Stuttgart, he became a key player, making 40 appearances across all competitions last season and demonstrating his shot-stopping abilities.
Despite his performances for Stuttgart, Nübel’s long-term future at Bayern appeared uncertain, with Manuel Neuer firmly established as the club’s number one goalkeeper. The move to Besiktas offers Nübel the opportunity to become a first-choice goalkeeper and play regular football, a key factor in his decision to seek a permanent exit from the Allianz Arena. The transfer provides Besiktas with an experienced and proven goalkeeper as they look to compete at the top of the Turkish Super Lig. This move allows Nübel to secure consistent playing time, while Bayern Munich recoup a fee for an asset who was unlikely to feature prominently in their first-team plans.
