Alexander Nübel has completed a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich to Turkish Süper Lig side Beşiktaş, the clubs confirmed on Monday.
The 29-year-old goalkeeper joins Beşiktaş for a reported €6.5 million fixed fee, with a further €5 million potentially payable in add-ons, and has signed a contract with the Turkish club that runs until 2029, according to Sky Germany.
Nübel initially joined Bayern Munich on a free transfer from Schalke in 2020, but his time in Bavaria was largely spent away on loan. Most recently, he spent three seasons with VfB Stuttgart, where he established himself as a key player, though Stuttgart were unable to meet his wage demands to secure a permanent deal.
Stuttgart were reportedly keen to retain Nübel’s services following a successful loan spell, but the club’s financial limitations prevented them from matching the financial package offered by Beşiktaş. At Bayern, Nübel found his path to regular first-team football blocked by the established presence of Manuel Neuer, as well as Jonas Urbig and Sven Ulreich.
Bayern’s board member for sport, Max Eberl, stated that Nübel is seeking to take “the next step” in his career with Beşiktaş, and the club wished him well for the future. During his time at Bayern, Nübel was a part of the squad that won the Bundesliga, Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and the German Supercup, making four appearances for the senior team.
Nübel’s move to Beşiktaş represents a significant opportunity for him to become a first-choice goalkeeper and play regularly at a high level. The transfer also allows Bayern to recoup a fee for a player who was deemed surplus to requirements, while streamlining their goalkeeping options.
