Germany goalkeeper Alexander Nübel is expected to depart FC Bayern Munich permanently this summer, following a three-year loan spell with VfB Stuttgart. Bayern’s new sporting directors, Christoph Freund and Max Eberl, have confirmed the 29-year-old will not be integrated into the first-team squad for the upcoming season, signalling their intention to sell the player.
Nübel rejoined Bayern at the end of the 2023-24 Bundesliga season after a successful stint with Stuttgart, where he established himself as a regular starter and showcased consistent performances. He was also included in Germany’s squad for the recent World Cup, although he did not feature in any matches. Prior to his move to Stuttgart, Nübel was a Schalke 04 player, where he gained prominence as a young talent before joining Bayern in 2020.
According to reports in Sport Bild, both Manchester City and Juventus are among the clubs expressing interest in acquiring Nübel. A transfer fee of between €10-15 million is being widely discussed as a potential valuation for the German international. Both clubs have reportedly initiated contact with Nübel’s representatives to explore a possible deal.
However, a significant hurdle in negotiations appears to be Nübel’s current salary, reported to be around €11 million per year. Juventus, having failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League, are currently unable to meet those financial demands. It is understood that Bayern Munich may be willing to subsidize a portion of Nübel’s wages to facilitate a transfer, potentially making a move to Italy more feasible.
Manchester City, meanwhile, currently have Ederson as their established first-choice goalkeeper, but Stefan Ortega Moreno serves as a reliable backup. The addition of Nübel would provide further depth and competition in that position. For Juventus, Nübel would represent a potential long-term solution in goal, replacing Wojciech Szczęsny, who is approaching the end of his career. This move could solidify their defensive line and provide stability in a crucial position.
