Strasbourg winger Oscar Perea has joined Club América on a loan deal with an option to buy, according to French sports publication L’Équipe. The 20-year-old Colombian international was not part of Strasbourg’s pre-season training camp, signalling the club’s intent to move him on.
Perea arrived at Strasbourg in 2022 for a reported fee of €3.5 million, with a potential €1 million in add-ons, but has featured sparingly for the Ligue 1 side. He has played just 12 minutes in Ligue 1 since joining the club, and spent last season on loan at Portuguese side AVS, where his spell was described as ‘disappointing’ by L’Équipe.
The move to Club América offers Perea the opportunity to compete with Brian Rodriguez for a starting position. Strasbourg are reportedly keen to reduce their squad size, and Perea is one of several players the club are looking to offload, alongside Abakar Sylla, Saïdou Sow, and Junior Mwanga.
Perea’s contract with Strasbourg runs until 2029, but the option to buy included in the loan deal suggests that Club América may seek to make the transfer permanent if the player performs well. Mexican media outlet AM first reported the agreement. The loan move represents a chance for Perea to gain regular playing time and further develop his career away from France.
This transfer allows Strasbourg to free up space in their squad and potentially recoup some of the initial investment made in Perea two years ago, while providing the young Colombian with a fresh start in Liga MX.
