Richmond Owusu will remain with Juventus for the upcoming season after manager Massimiliano Spalletti decided to promote the midfielder to the first team, according to reports in Italy. Several Serie B clubs and some mid-to-lower table Serie A sides had expressed interest in Owusu, but Spalletti intervened to halt any potential departure.
The decision comes after Spalletti observed Owusu in action during a match against Basel, as well as during training sessions at the end of last season. Owusu, a product of the Juventus youth academy, is expected to fill the roster spot vacated by Miretti, who is reportedly set to leave the club soon. His inclusion also benefits the club in terms of Serie A squad registration rules, as academy graduates do not count against foreign player limits.
Owusu is described as a physically developed midfielder who has demonstrated maturity in game management while playing for Juventus Next Gen. He received his first call-up to a Juventus first-team matchday squad in 2024 under then-manager Thiago Motta, traveling with the team to Lecce as cover during an injury crisis.
Last summer, Owusu was close to accepting an offer from a club in Saudi Arabia, but Juventus convinced him to stay, promising a clear pathway towards first-team promotion. The club’s ability to retain Owusu demonstrates a commitment to developing young talent within their academy. Owusu’s promotion provides Spalletti with another midfield option and strengthens the Juventus squad ahead of the new season.
