Pavlović reflects on Bayern's dramatic Champions League victory over Real Madrid
Bayern Munich midfielder Aleksandar Pavlović has opened up about the intense pressure his side faced during their dramatic 4-3 Champions League quarter-final victory over Real Madrid. The 20-year-old, who scored his first-ever goal in the competition to equalise, described the match as a monumental test of nerve. "The stress level today was extremely high. But if every game ends like this one, we’ll gladly take it," Pavlović said in a post-match interview.
Pavlović highlighted Bayern's second-half transformation as the key to their comeback from a 3-2 halftime deficit. He credited a more organised defensive structure and improved coordination for turning the tide against the Spanish giants. "What was crucial was that our rest defence was very well organised in the second half. We had more coordination, more control – and offensively we did what we usually do well. That’s why we deserved to win," he explained. The young midfielder's goal, a crucial response to an early Manuel Neuer error, underscored his growing importance in the Bayern setup.
The match began disastrously for the German champions, falling behind within the opening minute. Pavlović, however, framed the early setback as a moment that galvanised the team. "Going behind after 35 seconds is obviously not a nice moment. But it’s exactly in situations like that that a team grows together. We responded immediately, kept going, and didn’t lose our composure – that’s how a top team plays," he stated. His landmark goal against one of Europe's most decorated clubs marked a significant personal milestone in his breakout season.
Having emerged from Bayern's academy, Pavlović has become a regular fixture in Thomas Tuchel's midfield this campaign, making over 20 appearances across all competitions. His composure and technical ability have drawn comparisons to former Bayern stalwarts, filling a void in the squad's engine room. The victory sets up a semi-final clash with Paris Saint-Germain, another formidable opponent. Pavlović acknowledged the challenge ahead, noting PSG's current form. "PSG in the semi-final will of course be another really tough opponent. Everyone knows what kind of team they are – very active, maybe together with us one of the most active teams at the moment. We’re looking forward to it and will prepare well," he added.
The win not only keeps Bayern's European campaign alive but also provides a vital morale boost as they chase silverware on multiple fronts. For Pavlović, the performance against Real Madrid serves as the latest evidence of his rapid development and his capacity to perform on the biggest stage. His continued progression will be crucial for Bayern as they navigate the final weeks of a demanding season, with his future at the club appearing increasingly central to their long-term plans.
