Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini is expected to sign a contract extension with the club, while the future of Paulo Dybala remains uncertain, according to reports in Italy. The developments come as Roma push for a Champions League spot in the final weeks of the Serie A season.
Pellegrini’s current deal is set to expire on June 30th, making him free to discuss terms with other clubs since February. However, the midfielder has expressed a desire to remain at the Stadio Olimpico, and manager Daniele De Rossi has reportedly requested the club prioritize his renewal. Roma are prepared to offer Pellegrini a contract through 2029, though at a reduced salary compared to his current terms.
The situation surrounding Dybala is more complex, as his contract also expires at the end of the season. The Argentine forward has reportedly paused consideration of offers from Boca Juniors and Fenerbahce, hoping to secure a future with Roma, particularly if the club qualifies for the Champions League. Roma ownership are considering a similar contract structure to Pellegrini’s – an extension with reduced wages – for Dybala.
Roma manager Daniele De Rossi has repeatedly stressed his desire to maintain the core of the current squad, resisting calls for significant player sales to generate profit. He has specifically highlighted the importance of retaining key Italian players like Pellegrini, Gianluca Mancini, and Bryan Cristante. Mancini and Cristante are expected to sign contract extensions through 2030, solidifying their long-term commitments to the club.
Roma currently face Parma in Serie A, with an eye towards securing Champions League qualification in their remaining matches against Lazio and Verona. The club will be without goalkeeper Rui Patricio and forward Stephan El Shaarawy for the Parma match, adding to the challenges as they navigate both on-field competition and contract negotiations.
