FC Porto defender Jan Bednarek was the victim of a violent robbery at his home while dining with his family, according to reports in Portuguese outlet O Jogo. Four men and one woman are believed to have entered the property during the incident. Bednarek and his family were reportedly threatened by an individual wielding a knife.
The robbery resulted in an estimated loss of €150,000, with the thieves taking a bracelet, two wedding bands, and two watches. This is the reason the Polish international missed Porto’s recent league match against AVS Futebol SAD, a 3-1 defeat. However, the result was inconsequential as Porto had already secured the Portuguese Primeira Liga title.
Bednarek joined Porto from Southampton in July 2023 on a season-long loan, which was then made permanent in March 2024. The 27-year-old has become a key figure in the Porto defence, making 26 league appearances this season and contributing to their title-winning campaign. Prior to his move to Portugal, he spent four seasons in the English Premier League with Southampton, establishing himself as a consistent performer.
The incident occurred shortly after Porto celebrated their 31st Portuguese league title. The club has not yet released an official statement regarding the robbery, but the news has understandably caused concern amongst supporters. It remains to be seen if the event will have any lasting impact on Bednarek’s performance or future with the club.
