Porto are preparing for a potential departure of midfielder Victor Froholdt and have identified Nordsjaelland’s Caleb Yirenkyi as a possible replacement, according to TEAMtalk. The Portuguese club are proactively assessing options amid growing interest in Froholdt from several Premier League clubs.
Froholdt joined Porto from FC Copenhagen last summer and has quickly become a key player, attracting attention from Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Brighton and Newcastle United. A release clause in his contract is reportedly in excess of £70 million, though Porto officials acknowledge sustained interest could test their resolve.
Yirenkyi, a Ghanaian international, has impressed playing for Nordsjaelland and is considered a promising young midfielder outside of Europe’s top five leagues. Several of the clubs monitoring Froholdt have also reportedly scouted Yirenkyi, adding another layer to Porto’s planning.
Brighton are also known to be admirers of Yirenkyi, viewing him as a potential long-term successor to Carlos Baleba, whose performances have drawn interest from other European clubs. Porto’s recruitment staff are keen to secure Yirenkyi should Froholdt leave, believing the Ghanaian has the potential to develop within their system and eventually be sold for a significant profit.
Both players are currently participating in the World Cup finals, representing Denmark and Ghana respectively, providing an opportunity for interested clubs to further evaluate their abilities. The coming weeks could be crucial for both midfielders as clubs weigh up potential transfers and succession plans. Porto’s proactive approach aims to position them strongly in the market should they decide to pursue a formal offer for Yirenkyi.
