Inter are progressing towards the signing of Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel, according to reports in Italy. The move comes with current Inter number one Yann Sommer expected to depart at the end of his contract on June 30th. Discussions are underway between the two Serie A clubs, with Inter initially offering a transfer fee of €3 million, though Lazio are reportedly holding out for at least €5 million, potentially with performance-related bonuses.
Provedel, who is 30 years old, informed Lazio’s new coach Rino Gattuso of his desire to seek opportunities with a larger club in recent days. His agent, Gianni Rava, has already reached a preliminary agreement with Inter regarding a contract that would run until 2028, with an option for a further year. The goalkeeper is reportedly eager to join Inter and has accepted the possibility of initially serving as backup to Josep Martinez.
Provedel has established himself as a key player for Lazio since joining from Spezia in 2022. He played a crucial role in their Champions League qualification and has become a fan favourite. His consistent performances have attracted interest from other clubs, including Bologna, but Provedel’s preference is a move to Inter.
Inter’s sporting director Beppe Marotta is known to favour recruiting players with strong Italian representation within the squad, and Provedel fits that profile. His experience and character are expected to be valuable assets in the dressing room, even if he begins his Inter career as a substitute. The transfer would address a pressing need for Inter following Sommer’s anticipated departure, providing competition and depth in the goalkeeping position. A deal is anticipated to be completed following further negotiations between the two clubs this week.
