Paris Saint-Germain have completed the signing of French forward Désiré Doué from Stade Rennais, the club confirmed on Tuesday. According to widespread reports in France, including from L'Équipe, the transfer fee is in the region of 50 million euros, with the 20-year-old signing a five-year contract with the Ligue 1 champions.
Doué, who has been at Rennes since the age of ten, made his first-team breakthrough during the 2022-23 season and has since established himself as one of the most exciting young talents in French football. His performances last season, which yielded eight goals and nine assists across all competitions, attracted significant interest from several top European clubs. PSG's sporting director, Luis Campos, identified Doué as a key target early in the window to add depth and dynamism to the club's attacking options.
The move represents a significant step in Doué's career, transitioning from a developing talent at Rennes to a player expected to contribute immediately at the Parc des Princes. For PSG, the acquisition aligns with a recent strategy of securing the best domestic talent, following the signings of players like Warren Zaïre-Emery and the continued integration of academy products. Manager Luis Enrique is said to view Doué as a versatile attacker capable of playing across the front line, providing competition for places alongside established stars.
Rennes, meanwhile, secure a substantial fee for a player developed in their own academy, funds that are expected to be reinvested into their squad as they look to build under new manager Bruno Génésio. The sale continues a trend of the Brittany club producing and selling high-value talent, following the departures of Eduardo Camavinga and Jérémy Doku in recent years.
For Doué, the transfer comes at a pivotal moment, just before the start of pre-season, allowing him a full integration period with his new teammates. His arrival at PSG is unlikely to signal the end of the club's transfer business, with further reinforcements in midfield and defense still being sought according to reports. The French international at Under-21 level will now aim to carve out a significant role in PSG's quest for a fifth consecutive Ligue 1 title and a deeper run in the UEFA Champions League.
