Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Martin James has completed a permanent transfer to German Bundesliga club Cologne, the club confirmed. The 19-year-old has signed a contract with Cologne that will run until 2029. James will initially serve as the third-choice goalkeeper, behind Marvin Schwäbe and World Cup winner Ron-Robert Zieler.
James, a native of Versailles, progressed through the youth ranks at PSG, featuring in some matchday squads in the Champions League. He was a key contributor to PSG’s run to the semi-finals of the UEFA Youth League last season, where they were eventually eliminated by Real Madrid on penalties. Despite being offered a first professional contract by PSG, James has opted to pursue a new opportunity in Germany.
The move to Cologne represents a significant step in James’s career, providing him with the chance to develop within a professional environment in one of Europe’s top five leagues. While he will begin as a backup, the length of his contract suggests Cologne sees long-term potential in the young shot-stopper.
