Paris Saint-Germain are currently in negotiations with Atletico Madrid over a potential transfer for forward Julian Alvarez, according to reports from El Chiringuito. The discussions between the two clubs have been ongoing for some time, with a fee in excess of €150 million being discussed.
This development comes as Alvarez prepares for the upcoming World Cup with Argentina, having established himself as a key player for Atletico. Barcelona have also been linked with the 26-year-old, openly expressing their interest in acquiring his services, but the reported fee demanded by Atletico appears to place them out of contention. Barcelona had reportedly set a budget of €100 million for the deal and were awaiting a signal from Alvarez regarding his desire to move.
Reports from Argentine journalist Gaston Edul initially indicated PSG’s intention to make an attempt to sign Alvarez, and these claims have now been substantiated by the Spanish outlet. While some sources, such as Sport, suggest PSG are not actively pursuing Alvarez, Diario AS reports that manager Luis Enrique has specifically requested his signing. Previous reports indicate that Hansi Flick and Mikel Arteta have also spoken with the player.
Alvarez also has the option of remaining at Atletico Madrid, where a new contract with a significant wage increase is reportedly on the table. Should he choose to stay, Los Colchoneros are prepared to offer him a deal to commit his future to the club, potentially before the start of the World Cup. Alvarez has been a consistent performer for Atletico, becoming a focal point in their attack. The potential transfer could significantly impact both clubs, with PSG bolstering their attacking options and Atletico potentially losing a key player.
