Christian Pulisic is the subject of a significant transfer offer from New York City, according to reports in Italy. The Major League Soccer club is prepared to offer the AC Milan forward a five-year contract worth $10 million per season, a proposition that has reportedly caught the attention of the player.
Pulisic’s future at Milan has been cast into doubt following a disappointing season for the club, which failed to qualify for the Champions League for the second consecutive year. Despite initially being declared “untouchable” by RedBird Capital’s Gerry Cardinale, the possibility of a departure has grown, particularly after Pulisic expressed enjoyment returning to the United States during recent international duty with the national team, even singing “Take Me Home” after a match in Seattle.
Pulisic’s current contract with Milan is valid until June 30, 2027, with a club option for an additional year. Negotiations for an extension had stalled after initial discussions regarding a deal worth €5 million plus bonuses reached an impasse. The club reportedly hesitated, while Pulisic began to consider his options, a period coinciding with a dip in his goalscoring form. He was the team’s leading scorer until January, but experienced a prolonged drought thereafter.
The New York City offer presents a substantial financial incentive for Pulisic, and while no formal bid has yet been made to Milan, the club’s ownership group, City Group, is keen to bring him back to the United States, where he previously played at youth level. Milan are aware that allowing Pulisic’s contract to run down carries the risk of losing him for free, potentially forcing them into further negotiations for a new deal, with Pulisic now likely to demand a salary exceeding that of Rafael Leão, Milan’s current highest earner at approximately €7 million per year including bonuses. Both Cardinale and new manager Ruben Amorim view Pulisic as a key component of the team’s future, meaning a significant transfer fee would be required to convince Milan to sell.
