Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has announced a 28-man preliminary squad for the upcoming World Cup, with a training camp scheduled in Cardiff ahead of a friendly match against Wales. The squad includes five goalkeepers, a number Queiroz intends to reduce to three before the tournament begins.
Among the selected players are Antoine Semenyo, Iñaki Williams, and Jordan Ayew, all expected to play key roles for the Black Stars. Several players with ties to Ligue 1 are also included, notably Ernest Nuamah, who returns to the national team, and Alidu Seidu of Rennes. Kojo Oppong of Nice and Augustine Boakye of Saint-Étienne have also been named in the preliminary list, despite their clubs facing each other in a crucial Ligue 1 promotion playoff match.
Interestingly, Salis Abdul Samed was not included in the squad, meaning he will be available for Saint-Étienne’s playoff match. André Ayew, Jordan Ayew’s brother, is also absent from the list, having not featured for the national team since 2024. Tottenham Hotspur winger Mohammed Kudus is also not included, allowing him to focus on his recovery from an injury that has kept him sidelined since January 4th, and celebrate his club’s Premier League survival.
The inclusion of Nuamah marks a return to the national team for the young forward, while the presence of players from various European leagues demonstrates the breadth of talent available to Queiroz. The squad selection reflects a blend of experienced players and emerging talents as Ghana prepares for a challenging World Cup campaign. This preliminary squad will likely be trimmed as Queiroz assesses player form and tactical considerations in the coming weeks, ultimately aiming to finalize a competitive roster for the tournament.
