Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Diant Ramaj is expected to leave the club before the summer transfer window closes, according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg. The 24-year-old was not included in the squad for Dortmund’s pre-season tour of Japan, with the club allowing him to pursue discussions with potential suitors.
Whether Ramaj will leave on a permanent transfer or a year-long loan remains undecided, with ongoing negotiations determining his future. Plettenberg reports that several unnamed clubs have expressed interest in the German shot-stopper, and Dortmund are currently evaluating the various offers presented.
Dortmund initially signed Ramaj from Ajax Amsterdam in February 2025 for a reported fee of €5million. However, following his arrival, the club immediately loaned him to FC Copenhagen to gain regular playing experience. He then spent the 2024-25 season with 1. FC Heidenheim, where he established himself as a key player, making 31 Bundesliga appearances.
Ramaj’s time at Heidenheim showcased his potential, but he has been unable to break into the first-team picture at Dortmund, currently behind Gregor Kobel in the pecking order. The move will allow him to seek consistent first-team football, something Dortmund are unable to guarantee at this stage. Dortmund may also seek to recoup some of the €5million spent on his acquisition, or potentially secure a loan deal that aids his development without losing a valuable asset entirely.
The departure of Ramaj could prompt Dortmund to consider options for backup goalkeeping cover, though they may feel confident in their existing youth options. For Ramaj, a move represents a crucial step in his career, offering the opportunity to solidify his position as a Bundesliga goalkeeper.
