Tromso midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl has publicly stated his preference for a summer transfer to Rangers, despite reported interest from Turkish side Besiktas. The 20-year-old is widely expected to leave Tromso before the close of the transfer window, and Rangers are currently pursuing his signature.
According to reports in Norway, Rangers have already had an opening bid of €6.2 million rejected for Hjerto-Dahl. Tromso are believed to be seeking a fee in the region of €10 million for the Norway U21 international, who still has three years remaining on his current contract. However, following a 4-0 victory over Valerenga on Saturday, Hjerto-Dahl indicated his willingness to move to Ibrox.
“I still prefer Rangers over Besiktas, but I am prepared for the fact that it could take a long time before a move to a new club is finalised,” Hjerto-Dahl said after the match, where he scored his sixth league goal of the season in just 13 appearances. This statement suggests a strong desire to join the Scottish club, even acknowledging potential delays in negotiations.
Rangers manager Derek McInnes, appointed in June following the departure of Danny Rohl, has been active in the transfer market. The club has already secured the signings of Ivor Pandur, Ross McCrorie, Dan Neil, Lawrence Shankland, Cammy Devlin, and Ben Godfrey on loan. Rangers are also linked with Partizan Belgrade’s Vanja Dragojevic as they seek to strengthen their midfield options. Recent departures include Jack Butland to Hull City, and free agents Ben Davies and James Tavernier, with Bailey Rice loaned to Kilmarnock.
The potential arrival of Hjerto-Dahl would further bolster McInnes’s squad as he prepares for the upcoming season. His goal-scoring record from midfield demonstrates his attacking capabilities, and he could provide valuable creativity and energy to the Rangers midfield. The club’s willingness to invest in new players signals their ambition to compete at the highest level.
