Barcelona are exploring options to secure Marcus Rashford beyond his current loan spell, with the player proactively offering financial concessions to facilitate a permanent transfer. Rashford’s loan from Manchester United expires at the end of the season, and while he has impressed during his time in Catalonia, the club had initially been hesitant to trigger the buy option in their existing agreement.
According to MD, Rashford has now agreed to a 40% wage reduction to make a permanent deal more feasible for Barcelona. Beyond the reduction in salary, the England international has also offered to amortise his signing fee over five years, rather than the initially agreed three. Spreading the cost over a longer period would lessen the immediate financial impact of registering him with La Liga.
Rashford publicly stated his desire to remain with Barcelona on a permanent basis, and these latest moves demonstrate his commitment to the club. However, Manchester United are currently indicating they are not open to another loan arrangement, preferring a definitive decision on his future. The initial loan move came after Rashford experienced a dip in form for United, and struggled to consistently find the back of the net.
The final decision regarding Rashford’s future rests with incoming manager Hansi Flick. While Barcelona are currently leaning towards not exercising the buy option, Flick could override this if he deems Rashford a crucial part of his plans. Sporting director Deco will then be tasked with finding a way to structure a deal that doesn't negatively impact the club’s other transfer targets.
Flick’s assessment is expected in the coming weeks, leaving Rashford in a state of uncertainty. However, his willingness to compromise financially has significantly strengthened his case for a permanent move to Barcelona. A successful resolution would provide Flick with a proven attacking option and solidify Barcelona’s forward line for the upcoming season.
