Manchester United are attempting to sell forward Marcus Rashford this summer, with a reported £40 million release clause in his contract, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein. However, the clause is not applicable to potential moves to Premier League rivals Liverpool or Manchester City.
Barcelona, where Rashford spent the 2025/26 season on loan, have opted against triggering the £26 million buy-option to make the deal permanent following a successful campaign where they secured their second consecutive LaLiga title. The Catalan club have already brought in Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United to bolster their attacking options.
While Barcelona are interested in another season-long loan, United are pushing for a permanent sale. TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey reports that the club are actively seeking offers for Rashford, even willing to consider approaches from Chelsea and Arsenal. Intermediaries have reportedly made contact with both London clubs regarding a potential transfer, with Rashford currently participating with the England squad at the 2026 World Cup.
Ornstein’s reporting indicates Rashford would prefer to see out the remaining two years of his contract at Old Trafford should a suitable offer not materialise, rather than join another English team. This complicates United’s efforts to offload the 26-year-old.
Separately, United are also pursuing a double raid on West Ham United, with interest in both Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville. Sources indicate United have been in contact with Fernandes’ agents, with the player eager to join and play alongside Bruno Fernandes. They have also enquired about Summerville, a former Leeds United winger, who West Ham value at £50 million. Napoli and AC Milan have also been linked with Summerville this summer.
