Marcus Rashford’s potential permanent transfer to Barcelona is increasingly uncertain as the club prioritises a deal for Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva, according to reports from TV3. Rashford is currently on loan at the Camp Nou, with a €30 million buyout clause included in the agreement with Manchester United.
Barcelona’s recent €80 million acquisition of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United, who plays in similar positions to Rashford, has already cast doubt on the Englishman’s long-term future with the Catalan side. The pursuit of Silva, a free agent at the end of June after his contract with City expires, further complicates matters. TV3 reports that Barcelona are close to finalising a deal with the Portuguese international, with Silva reportedly accepting a ‘financially low’ offer to join the club.
Rashford, aged 28, had hoped Barcelona would trigger his buyout clause, but the club’s spending on Gordon and their focus on Silva significantly diminish those prospects. Mundo Deportivo reports that Rashford remains hopeful, but Sport suggests he, along with Roony Bardghji, could be affected by the club’s restructuring under sporting director Deco. While a permanent deal remains difficult, a second loan spell at Barcelona has not been entirely ruled out.
However, Manchester United are unlikely to agree to another loan arrangement, reportedly insisting on either the full €30 million buyout clause being met or the complete termination of negotiations. United believe Rashford’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €38.5 million reflects his market worth and are keen to raise funds for their own squad overhaul under manager Michael Carrick. The club anticipates needing to sign at least one defender, two midfielders, and an attacker this summer. Rashford’s situation leaves his future hanging in the balance, with a return to Manchester United increasingly likely if Barcelona fail to meet United’s demands.
