Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford is not interested in joining Tottenham Hotspur this summer, despite the London club’s willingness to match his current wages, according to reports in The i Paper. Tottenham had identified Rashford as a key target for manager Roberto De Zerbi, but the England international is reportedly prioritizing a move to Barcelona.
Rashford recently completed a loan spell with Barcelona, though the Catalan club opted not to exercise their £26 million buy option by the June 15th deadline. Despite this, the 26-year-old remains keen on a move to the Camp Nou, with Barcelona reportedly preparing another loan offer. Manchester United are seeking a fee of £40 million for Rashford, though sources suggest a figure closer to £25 million is more realistic.
Rashford’s contract at Manchester United includes a release clause of £40 million, but this is not applicable to clubs like Liverpool or Manchester City. Tottenham, however, are able to trigger the clause, but the player’s preference lies elsewhere. He is currently with the England squad at the ongoing 2026 World Cup, adding complexity to potential negotiations.
TEAMtalk understands that Barcelona are prepared to wait until later in the transfer window to finalize a deal for Rashford, believing his desire to join them will ultimately prove decisive. They have already secured a deal for Anthony Gordon from Newcastle, but still see Rashford as a valuable addition to their squad. This stance is bolstered by reports that Rashford “remains extremely keen to join Barcelona next season”.
Should Rashford secure a move to Barcelona, it would represent a significant shift in his career trajectory, offering him the chance to play for one of Europe’s most prestigious clubs. For Tottenham, it means a return to the drawing board in their search for attacking reinforcements under De Zerbi.
