Marcus Rashford’s potential permanent transfer to Barcelona has been given a boost by reports suggesting Raphinha is seeking an exit from Camp Nou this summer. The deadline for Barcelona to activate Rashford’s €30 million buyout clause from his loan spell at Manchester United recently passed, but the England international’s chances of a long-term move to the Spanish club have increased.
The shift in possibility stems from claims regarding Raphinha, the Brazilian winger, who is reportedly experiencing personal and financial difficulties and is hoping to secure a transfer to Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal. Vampeta, a former Brazil World Cup winner and current pundit, revealed on the ‘Red Cast’ podcast that he has been informed of Raphinha’s desire to leave by the player’s representatives. He stated that Raphinha is “praying” to be able to join Al Hilal, citing a difficult period for the player.
While Raphinha has not publicly addressed these claims, Igor Padilha, a source close to the Barcelona player, has dismissed Vampeta’s comments as untrue. Nevertheless, Raphinha has been consistently linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, with recent reports suggesting an offer of €170 million could be made, along with a quadrupling of his current salary. In October 2025, Raphinha acknowledged a substantial offer from Saudi Arabia in 2024, stating it could resolve financial issues for him and his family.
Should Raphinha depart Barcelona, Rashford would emerge as a natural replacement, having made a positive impression during his loan spell at the club. A permanent deal for Rashford would also alleviate some of Barcelona’s financial concerns and provide the funds necessary to meet his wage demands, which previously presented a significant obstacle to a €30 million transfer. However, Manchester United are now reportedly seeking a fee in excess of the initial agreement, hoping to receive around €40 million for the winger, who has also attracted interest from several Premier League clubs.
Spanish football expert Terry Gibson believes Rashford will remain at Barcelona, suggesting the club may attempt to secure another loan deal. Gibson also indicated that Raphinha’s departure is increasingly likely, citing recent injury problems and a potentially lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia. He believes Barcelona could recoup the funds spent on Anthony Gordon through the sale of Raphinha, paving the way for both Rashford and Gordon to join the club next season. Rashford has consistently expressed his desire for a permanent move to Barcelona, making this scenario particularly appealing to the player.
