Marcus Rashford’s long-term future at Manchester United remains unresolved as Bayern Munich have reportedly agreed a €55million (£47.5m) deal to sign Ismael Saibari from PSV Eindhoven, according to Fabrizio Romano. This development casts further doubt on a potential permanent move for Rashford to Bayern, who had previously shown interest in the England international.
Rashford spent the 2025-26 season on loan at Barcelona, playing a key role in their La Liga title win, contributing eight goals and seven assists. However, Hansi Flick’s Barcelona have seemingly cooled their interest in activating the €30million (£26m) option to make the move permanent, with Manchester United reportedly eager to sell the player.
Rashford had expressed a desire to remain with Barcelona in May, but the Spanish club’s recent acquisition of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United for a fee of up to €80million (£70m) has complicated matters. Despite this, Rashford had received a potential lifeline with reported contact from Bayern, but that now appears to have faded with their pursuit of Saibari.
Saibari, a 25-year-old Morocco international, enjoyed a prolific season for Peter Bosz’s PSV, scoring 19 goals in all competitions. He also impressed on the World Cup stage, scoring against Brazil in Morocco’s opening match. Having progressed through PSV’s youth system since 2020, Saibari has amassed 142 appearances for the club, netting 42 goals and winning three Eredivisie titles among other honours.
While Rashford prepares for England’s World Cup campaign, Manchester United are actively pursuing reinforcements. The Times reports that the club is close to securing the signing of Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United for a fee of €92million (£80m), as manager Michael Carrick looks to revamp the squad ahead of the 2026-27 season. United have identified midfield as a priority area for strengthening, with Fernandes having impressed despite West Ham’s relegation.
