Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has reportedly instructed the club to pursue a permanent deal for Marcus Rashford, currently on loan from Manchester United. The decision comes after Rashford concluded his campaign with Barcelona, helping the club secure their second successive LaLiga title with eight goals and nine assists in the league, and 28 goal contributions across all competitions.
Despite not always being a regular starter, Rashford’s output has been noteworthy, though Spanish outlet Sport delivered a critical assessment following a 3-1 defeat to Valencia, where Rashford played the full 90 minutes without a goal or assist. Sport described Rashford as “tough,” adding he “runs a lot but doesn’t finish anything,” a comment some consider harsh given his overall seasonal performance.
According to reporter Matteo Moretto, Flick has given the “green light” for Rashford’s permanent transfer, with the player himself reportedly willing to make a financial sacrifice to remain at the Camp Nou. The main hurdle now lies in negotiations between Barcelona and Manchester United.
Manchester United are seeking to capitalize on Rashford’s situation, aiming to generate €30m / £26m from his sale to fund other transfer targets. While Barcelona have an option to buy for that amount, initial approaches have focused on extending the loan or structuring a deal that doesn’t involve an immediate full payment. Flick’s influence could be crucial in persuading the Barcelona board, led by sporting director Deco, to meet United’s asking price.
Flick recently signed a contract extension until 2028, strengthening his position within the club. His success in securing the LaLiga title in his first two seasons gives him significant leverage. For Manchester United, a swift resolution facilitated by Flick would be ideal to free up funds for their own summer acquisitions. This move could allow United to restructure their attack and invest in other areas of the squad.
