Manchester United’s potential move for West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville is currently contingent on the future of Marcus Rashford, according to Fabrizio Romano. The club are prioritizing midfield reinforcements, but Summerville remains under consideration, though no formal negotiations have begun with West Ham or the player’s representatives.
Rashford’s loan spell at Barcelona did not result in a permanent transfer, with the Spanish club opting not to trigger the £26 million buy-option. Reports suggest Rashford still harbors interest in a return to Barcelona, with the club potentially seeking another loan deal. However, United are reportedly seeking a permanent sale or, failing that, reintegration of the England international into the first team.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano stated that United’s focus is on strengthening their midfield options. He clarified that while Summerville is a player they appreciate, any move for the Dutch international is dependent on Rashford’s situation. If Rashford remains at Old Trafford, a deal for Summerville becomes “more complicated.”
Summerville, currently valued at £50 million by West Ham, will be playing in the Championship next season following the club’s relegation from the Premier League. A release clause in his contract has reportedly alerted United, but the club are not currently engaged in direct talks.
Rashford himself has addressed his future during the international break with England, stating he was “very clear with everyone involved before the World Cup” regarding his desires. He added he wanted any potential transfer resolved before the tournament, and is now fully focused on England’s campaign, stating he doesn’t have “energy to be putting into other things.” His comments suggest a willingness to remain at United if a suitable resolution isn’t found.
This situation leaves United in a state of flux regarding their attacking options, with Summerville’s arrival hinging on Rashford’s decision. A resolution will be crucial as Erik ten Hag looks to shape his squad for the upcoming season.
