Rayo Vallecano have announced the appointment of Beñat San José as their new manager, the club confirmed on Tuesday. San José arrives from Eibar after Rayo Vallecano activated a release clause of €400,000 to secure his services. The move comes after Iñigo Pérez recently departed for Villarreal.
San José, 46, brings a wealth of international managerial experience to Vallecas, having previously managed in Bolivia, Mexico, Chile, Saudi Arabia, Belgium, Spain, and the United Arab Emirates. He enjoyed success in both Bolivia and Chile, winning league titles in each country. His nomadic career demonstrates a willingness to embrace different footballing cultures and challenges.
Prior to taking the reins at Rayo Vallecano, San José began his coaching journey with Real Sociedad, honing his tactical skills within the Spanish system. He takes over a Rayo Vallecano side that recently reached the final of a European competition under Pérez, indicating the ambition of the club and the pressure to maintain a competitive edge.
The appointment signifies a change in direction for Rayo Vallecano, as they seek to build upon their recent successes and establish themselves as a consistent force in La Liga. San José’s diverse experience could prove invaluable as he navigates the challenges of the Spanish top flight. The club will be hoping San José can replicate his previous successes and guide them to further achievements in the coming seasons.
