The 35-year-old Norwegian international is being considered as a backup option to Maarten Vandevoordt in Domenico Tedesco’s squad. This potential transfer comes with uncertainty surrounding the future of current goalkeeper Peter Gulácsi, who is reportedly a target for Villarreal.
Nyland is already familiar with RB Leipzig, having spent the 2022-23 season with the club after joining on a free transfer. He provided cover during that period, though he did not establish himself as a regular starter. Before his previous spell in Leipzig, Nyland gained experience in German football with FC Ingolstadt 04, where he played for three years in both the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga.
More recently, Nyland has been a key figure for the Norwegian national team, starting in five of their six matches during their qualifying campaign for the 2026 World Cup. He particularly impressed in a quarter-final run, highlighted by a strong performance against Brazil. His international form has seemingly kept him on the radar of clubs across Europe, including Leipzig.
The potential arrival of Nyland would provide Leipzig with a reliable and experienced backup goalkeeper, particularly if Gulácsi departs.
