Real Madrid are poised to make a formal offer exceeding £100 million for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, according to TEAMtalk. The Argentina international has reportedly informed Chelsea of his desire to move to the Santiago Bernabeu, with Real Madrid emerging as his preferred destination.
Sources indicate that Fernandez was a key figure in Florentino Perez’s recent presidential election campaign, with the Real Madrid president publicly expressing his interest in acquiring the World Cup winner. Manager Jose Mourinho has also reportedly endorsed the pursuit, believing Fernandez possesses the qualities to become a central figure in the club’s rebuilding project.
Since returning to the Spanish capital, Mourinho has already overseen the arrivals of Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, and Marc Cucurella to bolster the defense, alongside Bernardo Silva to add experience to the midfield. While Real Madrid also maintain an interest in Rodri, their focus has remained firmly on Fernandez throughout the summer transfer window.
It is understood that Fernandez has already agreed in principle to a contract with Real Madrid that would run until 2032. The major hurdle remains reaching an agreement with Chelsea, who initially signed the midfielder from Benfica in January 2023 for a then-British record fee of £106 million.
Chelsea are currently reluctant to sell Fernandez, recognizing his importance to the team and wanting to avoid a financial loss on a recent significant investment. However, Real Madrid are prepared to meet Chelsea’s valuation, with figures at the club confident a deal can be struck. They are willing to exceed the £100 million mark to secure Mourinho’s priority target.
Financially, Real Madrid are well-positioned to complete the transfer, having previously considered a bid of around €150 million for Fernandez’s compatriot, Julian Alvarez. While Alvarez remains of interest, Fernandez has become the primary midfield target as Real Madrid aims to build a squad capable of competing for both domestic and European titles.
New Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso is reportedly keen to retain Fernandez, viewing him as a key component of his system. However, Fernandez has reportedly reaffirmed his desire to join Real Madrid, even after Alonso’s appointment. This stance has not changed, leaving Chelsea with a difficult decision regarding one of their prized assets.
