Arsenal and Chelsea face increased competition in their pursuit of Ayyoub Bouaddi, with Real Madrid now reportedly joining the race for the 18-year-old midfielder, according to Spanish publication Diario AS. The Ligue 1 standout is valued around €70 million (£60.6m).
Bouaddi has quickly risen to prominence since emerging from Lille’s youth system in 2023, already accumulating 63 Ligue 1 appearances. His performances have drawn attention from top clubs across Europe, and he recently showcased his talent on the international stage at the World Cup, delivering a notable performance in Morocco’s 1-1 draw against Brazil on June 13th.
Reports from The Times indicate that Arsenal have already initiated discussions with Lille regarding a potential transfer. Chelsea are also said to be interested, with talkSPORT suggesting the club is prepared to meet Bouaddi’s valuation of between €60m and €70m. However, Real Madrid’s entry adds a significant obstacle to both Premier League clubs’ ambitions.
Real Madrid have a history of signing players who have impressed at the World Cup, previously acquiring James Rodriguez and Keylor Navas after the 2014 tournament, and Mesut Ozil following his performances in 2010. Manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly seeking a statement signing following the conclusion of the World Cup, and Bouaddi appears to fit that profile. Real Madrid have already strengthened their squad this summer with the arrival of Marc Cucurella from Chelsea for €60m, and are poised to add Bernardo Silva and Ibrahima Konaté on free transfers.
Lille president Olivier Letang has been firm in his stance regarding Bouaddi’s potential departure, stating that the club will only consider offers deemed “extraordinary.” In comments reported by RMC Sport, Letang indicated that a fee of €50 million would not be sufficient, emphasizing Bouaddi’s contract, which runs until 2029, and his importance to the team’s Champions League aspirations. Bouaddi’s emergence as a key player for both Lille and Morocco has significantly increased his market value and the challenge for any club seeking to secure his services. The competition for his signature is expected to intensify in the coming weeks.
