Real Madrid are reportedly considering re-appointing José Mourinho as manager, according to reports emerging from Spain and Portugal. A Bola reports that tensions within the Real Madrid squad, specifically a reported altercation between Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni, have prompted club president Florentino Pérez to seek a manager with a strong personality to restore order to the dressing room.
Mourinho, currently managing Benfica, is viewed as a figure capable of bringing balance and authority to the Real Madrid environment. While the Portuguese coach remains under contract with Benfica for one year, Real Madrid are prepared to meet the three million euro release clause in his contract to secure his services in the coming weeks. Sources in Lisbon suggest the club are already considering potential replacements.
Marco Silva, the current manager of Fulham whose contract is expiring, is considered a credible candidate to succeed Mourinho at Benfica. Silva has a strong working relationship with Benfica’s general director, Mario Branco, which could facilitate negotiations. Mourinho himself is closely monitoring the situation in Madrid, with a return to the Bernabéu representing a significant temptation.
Alongside Silva, Benfica are also considering other options, including Ruben Amorim, formerly of Sporting Lisbon and recently linked with Manchester United. Filipe Luís, a former Brazil international and recent retiree from Flamengo, is another potential candidate, with Benfica officials reportedly impressed by his developing coaching philosophy. However, any movement on these alternatives is contingent on Real Madrid’s decision and Mourinho’s willingness to leave Benfica. The situation remains fluid, with much depending on Mourinho’s response to a potential offer from his former club.
