Como midfielder Nico Paz is the subject of a potential return to Real Madrid, according to reports from Italy. Representatives from Como are scheduled to meet with Real Madrid officials in Spain tomorrow to discuss the 19-year-old’s future.
Como had hoped to retain Paz for another season, potentially pushing back the buyback clause in his contract to the summer of 2027. However, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is now reportedly keen to bring Paz back to the Santiago Bernabéu for a fee of €10 million, with the intention of then selling him on for a significant profit. A valuation of at least €60 million has been suggested for the Argentinian youth international.
Paz has enjoyed a period of development during his two seasons with Como, becoming a key player for the club. He is currently with Argentina at the ongoing international tournament. Como manager Cesc Fabregas is eager to keep Paz, believing he could continue to progress and potentially become a starter in the Champions League should he remain with the Serie A side. Paz himself has publicly expressed his happiness at Como and a desire to continue playing in Italy.
Real Madrid holds a 50% stake in any future sale of Paz and also has the right to match any offers from other clubs. The Spanish giants have until June 30th to exercise the initial €10 million buyback clause. Alternatively, they have a third option to repurchase the player, who is under contract with Como until 2028, for €11 million. This latter option was reportedly preferred by Como, who maintain a good relationship with the Real Madrid hierarchy. The upcoming meeting aims to find a solution that satisfies all parties, though Real Madrid’s priority appears to be a quick sale to generate revenue. A successful resolution could see Como receive a substantial fee, while Real Madrid looks to capitalize on Paz’s growing potential.
