Real Madrid have renewed their interest in Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni, with the Serie A club reportedly demanding a fee of €70 million for the player. The potential transfer comes after recent dialogue between the two clubs regarding Denzel Dumfries, and further discussions during a “Corazon Classic Match” in Spain involving Inter legends.
Inter officials, led by Beppe Marotta, met with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, where Bastoni’s name was brought up in conversation. Inter are said to be unwilling to accept any offer below €70 million, the same figure they previously requested from Barcelona for the Italian centre-back. The club views Bastoni, whose contract runs until 2028, as a key asset and a difficult player to replace.
Despite their reluctance to sell, Inter are open to considering offers that meet their valuation, potentially allowing them to reinvest funds into other areas of the squad. A sale to Real Madrid for the asking price would significantly alter Inter’s transfer strategy for the upcoming season. Bastoni experienced a successful but also controversial season, winning both the Serie A title and Coppa Italia, but also facing scrutiny following incidents during the match against Juventus.
The return of José Mourinho to Real Madrid adds another layer to the potential deal. While Mourinho has not yet officially taken up his position, he will have the final say on the transfer. The Portuguese manager previously managed Inter, and his arrival has already prompted other potential signings for the Spanish club, including Marc Cucurella, Dayot Konaté, Bernardo Silva, and Dumfries.
Bastoni offers Real Madrid a versatile and experienced defender with 61 appearances in European competitions. His profile aligns with Mourinho’s ambitions for the team. For Inter, Bastoni has made 298 appearances, scoring 8 goals and winning 9 trophies since 2021. Should he depart, Inter may pursue Oumar Solet from Udinese, but would likely need to strengthen their defence further with the funds generated from a sale.
