Real Madrid's Gonzalo Garcia emerges as summer target for Newcastle United
Newcastle United are preparing a summer move for Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Garcia, with the Spanish club reportedly willing to sell the 22-year-old. According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, a departure for Garcia is considered "concrete" in the upcoming window, with Newcastle among several European clubs monitoring his situation. The Magpies' interest was first reported by TEAMtalk's Graeme Bailey, who described the potential move as "blockbuster."
The young forward has featured 33 times across all competitions for Real Madrid this season, contributing six goals and two assists. Despite his involvement, the competition for places at the Santiago Bernabeu is fierce, and the club's stance has shifted towards a sale. Romano stated that Real Madrid opted against letting Garcia leave in January because they had already loaned out Endrick, but the summer presents a different scenario, with the player now "available on the market."
Newcastle's ownership, the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), is keen to bolster the attacking options after summer signings Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade have struggled to make a consistent impact. The club had previously explored a deal for Garcia last year, and his development in the Spanish capital has only strengthened their resolve. Garcia is viewed as a rare profile—a physical, young centre-forward—which has attracted widespread attention.
Romano noted that interest extends beyond England, with clubs in Italy, Germany, Spain, and Portugal all making enquiries. Italian side Como were among those who attempted a move in January. The final decision will depend on the proposals presented and Garcia's own preference regarding his next career step. For Newcastle, securing a player of his potential would signal a continued ambition to compete at the top end of the Premier League, providing a focal point for their attack.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham has spoken ahead of his side's crucial Champions League quarter-final second leg against Bayern Munich. Trailing 2-1 from the first leg, Bellingham promised his team would not "hide" in Munich. "We want to believe because we don’t have any more chances," he told reporters. The England international, who came off the bench to help create Kylian Mbappe's goal in the first leg, emphasized the need for a strong start in what he described as a "final."
