Gonzalo Garcia of Real Madrid has been included on Spain’s “B list” for the 2026 World Cup, according to Marca. The forward will join the squad for pre-tournament friendlies, including a match against Peru in Mexico, but is not currently part of the main 26-man roster announced by head coach Luis de la Fuente.
This is the first time in history that Real Madrid will not have a player representing them in a Spain World Cup squad. Despite being a regular for Spain over the past year, Dean Huijsen was surprisingly omitted from the final squad in favour of Marc Pubill and Eric Garcia, who enjoyed strong seasons with Atletico Madrid and Barcelona respectively.
Garcia’s inclusion on the B list is a significant achievement for the young striker, who has quickly risen to prominence at Real Madrid over the last twelve months. He was relatively unknown a year ago but has established himself as a member of the first team and has now caught the attention of the national team setup.
While a place in the final World Cup squad is unlikely, club officials are considering allowing Garcia to leave this summer if his playing time is expected to be limited next season. Despite impressing the club, Real Madrid are prioritising the player’s development and are open to a transfer that would guarantee him more regular first-team football. The club have not yet received any official offers for the player.
De la Fuente has also named Marc Bernal, Javi Rodríguez, Jesús Rodríguez, Leo Román, Sergio Gómez, Jon Martín, Benat Turrientes and Javi Guerra on the B list, with all nine players set to train with the senior squad and potentially step up in the event of injuries.
