Stade Rennais have announced the signing of Adrien Thomasson from RC Lens, effective immediately. The 32-year-old midfielder joins the Breton club on a free transfer, having seen his contract with Lens expire. Thomasson has signed a three-year deal with Rennes, committing his future to the club until 2029.
Thomasson departs Lens after three seasons with the club, during which he established himself as a key player and captain. He recently lifted the Coupe de France with Lens, bidding farewell to the club and its supporters on social media prior to the move. His decision to join Rennes allows him to compete in the Europa League next season, while reportedly securing a more lucrative salary than he received in the north of France.
Throughout his career, Thomasson has played for several Ligue 1 clubs, including Évian Thonon Gaillard, Nantes, and Strasbourg, in addition to his time with Lens. Rennes’ sporting director, Loïc Désiré, and owner, François-Henri Pinault, had openly discussed their interest in acquiring Thomasson in recent statements, signaling the imminent arrival of the experienced midfielder.
Thomasson was a standout performer for Lens last season, contributing significantly with both goals and assists. His arrival at Rennes is expected to bolster their midfield options and provide a creative spark. The signing represents an early indication of Rennes’ ambitions for the upcoming season as they look to build on their current squad and compete effectively in both domestic and European competitions.
